GIRLS ON THE RUN at WEJ!!!

Girls on the Run & Girls on Track are here!

Girls on the Run is a life-changing positive youth development program which combines an interactive curriculum developing self-respect, with training for a non-competitive 5km run/walk. Our school will be running the Girls on the Run program for girls in grades 3 to 5 and the Girls on Track program for girls in grades 6-8. Both programs address many aspects of girls’ development and provide girls with the tools to make positive decisions and to avoid risky adolescent behaviours.
Over a period of ten weeks at W. Erskine Johnston on Tuesday and Friday afternoons from 4:00-5:15 pm girls will participate in an after-school program like no other! Girls on the Run and Girls on Track inspires girls to take charge of their lives and define the future on their own terms. It’s a place where girls learn that they can. No limits. No constraints. Only opportunities to be remarkable.
One girl put it this way: “I know that whatever I set my mind to do, I can do!” Not only do we get girls – and their families – moving, we provide them with important strategies and skills to help them navigate life experiences and challenges, including bullying, gossiping and standing up for themselves for the Girls on the Run program and eating disorders, internet safety, relationships and cyberbullying for the Girls on Track program.
Online registration is now open – visit www.girlsontherun.ca. Information was presented to the girls this morning, Wednesday, January 27th in the gymnasium. Complete registration information cards were handed out after the presentation! Space is limited to 20 spots for each program. Girls will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

For more information, please visit www.girlsontherun.ca or contact our site liaison: Nancy Grinberg ( robertnancy@rogers.com or 613-327-4523)

GIRLS ON THE RUN – Volunteer Opportunity

GOTR Volunteer Coaching Opportunity

Girls on the Run and Girls on Track is at W. Erskine Johnson Public School!

A team of volunteer coaches will facilitate the easy to follow curriculum over the course of the season.  They will serve as role models and mentors for the girls in the program.  Coaches are not required to be runners; they simply must be passionate about the mission of Girls on the Run, committed to working with a group of girls and able to bring energy and joy to each practice.

Our programs will meet twice a week on Tuesdays and Fridays for one hour and fifteen minutes, from 4:00pm to 5:15pm, over the course of 10 weeks.  The program begins on April 7th, 2015.  Coaches are also required to obtain a Police Record Check (free) and complete a short online training questionnaire.

Currently we have space in our programs for 2 to 3 volunteer coaches.  If you would like more information, please contact Nancy Grinberg at robertnancy@rogers.com or 613-327-4523.
