About Ms. Argue!

My name is Laura Argue & I am currently teaching grade 4/5 at W. Erskine Johnston Public School. I began teaching at WEJ back in 2006 as an intermediate teacher teaching Grade 8. Since then, I have taught Grade 6, Grade 3/4, Grade 3, Grade 1 (online) and I’m now really excited to teach Grade 4/5!

As a student, I grew up just down the road in Carp and have always loved learning new things. I attended Huntley Centennial Public School where my mother was a teacher for many years. Through my mom, I learned from a very young age the importance of being a life long learner and bringing the outdoors into the classroom – yes, we had many unusual pets growing up including crayfish, monarch caterpillars and ducks! After finishing elementary school, I moved on to attend West Carleton High School where my love for the outdoors and physical activity blossomed. I continued my studies at Queen’s University in Kingston and completed a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and a Bachelor of Physical and Health Education. After taking a year off to work as a Kinesiologist, I then went on to complete my Bachelor of Education at the University of Ottawa.

I believe that life is full of exciting things! I love to travel, try new activities and spend time with my family and friends. When I am not at school you may find me outside playing soccer, paddling on my SUP (Stand Up Paddle) board down the Ottawa River at our family cottage, or picking peas, beans or cucumbers from my backyard garden on a warm day. When the weather turns cold, you will find me running down the rink with a broomball stick in my hand trying to score a goal! I also enjoy going for walks on the trail behind our house with my husband Rene, my 4 year old son Camden, and my 10 month old daughter Addison. We are an active family year round who love to be outdoors which is something that I try to share with the students that I teach in my class.

As a teacher, I truly believe in providing a positive and safe learning environment for all my students where learning is fun and students are constantly engaged. I encourage my students to try new things and I am right there beside them to support them along the way. As an active person and teacher, I try to instill the importance of being a great “team” player in our classroom and model this with my students each and every day!

I look forward to getting to know you and your child and the adventure that we will take together during the rest of this school year.
