WEJ supporting the SNOWSUIT FUND this holiday season

Dear WEJ Families,

We in the WEJ WE club are proud to be a part of Snowsuit Fund initiative that was presented at our annual WITS assembly. The Snowsuit Fund provides warm snowsuits and other winter accessories for children who cannot afford them in our community.

From November 30th to December 4th, 2018 we will be collecting donations by our front door. These clothing pieces, such as scarves, gloves, hats, snowsuits and jackets, can be brand new or lightly used and clean. Please bring items to school for this worthy cause.  You can also donate gift cards to Walmart, Carter’s or Mark’s for purchasing new winter wear.

We believe that every child should be able to go out and play with their friends outside, even when it is cold! With our school’s help, we can help out those in need all around the community.

Thank you,

WEJ WE Club

The PERFECT day to make a SNOWMAN!

When I woke up this morning and looked outside I realized it would be great day to make a snowman!! I ran to my fridge and grabbed a bag of carrots to bring with me to school.

As soon as students entered into the school this morning I said, “Keep all of your winter clothes on…we are heading outside to make a snowman!!” I was greeted with smiles and cheers.

We headed outside and stopped by the lost and found to grab some “outdoor clothing” for our snowmen. Students collected items that they wanted to use and we all headed outside. Students got into small groups and started to roll snow into balls as soon as they got outside. Students had to work together to create their snowman. As they were working, I reminded them of the steps that they were taking to make there snowman – what did they do first, what did they do next – as we would be doing some procedural writing once we came back inside.

Students did an amazing job at creating their snowman and snowman families! Here are some pictures from our snowy adventure outside this morning:

Today, we will be writing about the steps that students took to make their snowman. This is called procedural writing. Procedural writing is the steps that you take to do or make something. If you have ever read how-to guides or followed step-by-step instructions you are using procedural writing! Students will be using procedural writing to write about how to create the perfect snowman! Stay tuned to see what students wrote.
