Today in science class, we joined together with Mr. Osborne’s grade 6 class to see if we could use fruits and vegetables to power an LED light.
Students were given pieces of copper and zinc to use as their positive and negative electrodes as well as alligator clips that acted as the conductor for their circuit. Each group was also given varying sizes and colours of LED lights to try with their circuit.
Students tested lemons, oranges, potatoes, dragon fruit, strawberries and their mystery (but edible) liquids to see if they would act as the power source (battery) to power an LED light. Students started with one fruit and added up to three of the same fruit in series and recorded their observations.
Here are some pics of them performing their experiment!
